SUMMARY:A Healthy Spine for Life\, 6-Week Course
DESCRIPTION:Led by Loulou James\, MCSP\, founder of the Buttafly and the Buttafly Technique\nHave you tried everything — and still live with back pain?\nConventional therapies tend to treat the spine with manual adjustments or strenuous exercise. SUMMARY:Feminine Rising — But Can You Feel It? (No judgment!)
DESCRIPTION:I am delighted to have been invited to share a workshop at the Sounds Beautiful Festival. With spaces limited to just 15 participants\, we’ll have the opportunity to explore together in a relaxed and intimate setting. \nSomething is shifting — in the world and in us all. \nMany people speak of the feminine rising: A quality of intelligence that is receptive\, relational\, embodied\, and whole. Many of us can sense something changing but without words to describe it\, to bring it from the ambient into the personal\, it can remain elusive\, somewhere out there; felt at the edges but not fully landed. Interesting\, even beautiful\, but not yet in the bones. \nThis energy does not need to be earned or learned. It does not require effort\, striving or doing. It is already moving. The question is only whether we can move from the habit of pushing forward into the grace of allowing what is already here. \nThe body is the language. This workshop is the translation. \nIt starts with a simple truth: how you feel shapes how you hold yourself\, and how you hold yourself shapes everything else: how you breathe and interact with the world around you. \nNatural posture — or to say it another way\, your original body — is not an achievement or a correction — it is what remains when we stop bracing against life. \nCome and join Loulou James\, designer of the Buttafly\, at the Sounds Beautiful Festival and explore some gentle practices as grounded and accessible as Mother Earth herself. \nPlease bring a yoga mat or something similar to lie on\, a cushion or pillow\, and a blanket. \nOpen to all – men\, don’t be shy! \nA ticket for the Sounds Beautiful Festival is required and can be purchased \nhere.

SUMMARY:Feminine Rising — Breath\, Spine and Inner Movement (Online)
DESCRIPTION:A live online evening session exploring breath\, spine and embodied awareness\nThis is a guided experiential session designed to explore how breath and subtle internal movement relate to the spine — and how awareness can shift the way we experience posture\, presence and ourselves. \nIt is suitable for anyone interested in embodiment\, yoga\, spinal awareness or the deeper principles behind feminine movement intelligence. \nSomething is shifting — in the world and in us all\nMany people speak of the feminine rising: A quality of intelligence that is receptive\, relational\, embodied\, and whole. \nOften\, we can sense this shift\, but it remains difficult to describe. It is felt more than understood — present at the edges of awareness\, but not yet fully grounded in the body. \nThis online session is an invitation to explore that territory directly. \nWe will work gently with breath and the spine\, not as separate functions\, but as one continuous field of movement and awareness. \nRather than directing breath or trying to correct posture\, we will explore what happens when attention is placed inside the body — allowing movement to arise from within rather than being imposed from the outside. \nAn embodied practice\, rooted in spinal awareness\nThe breath will be used as a doorway into subtle movement through the spine. From there\, we will explore how the body organises itself when it is not being directed by effort\, correction or control. \nIn this way\, the session reflects a principle often associated with the feminine: movement that emerges from within rather than being imposed upon the body. \nLess doing. More listening. Less correction. More sensing. \nNatural posture — or what might be called the original body — is not something to achieve. It is what becomes available when we stop bracing against life. \nYou will need:\n\nA quiet space where you can sit\, stand and lie down comfortably\nInternet connection\nNo prior experience required\n\nIf you feel drawn to this work but are unsure whether it is for you\, trust that sense of curiosity. This is an exploratory space rather than a performance or a class.

SUMMARY:Relax to Reward (guest speaker)
DESCRIPTION:Loulou James\, founder of the Buttafly and Integrative Spine Health Practitioner is delighted  to be contributing to the Relax to Reward well-being programme at Harbour Hotel Christchurch. \nThis carefully curated event brings together movement\, relaxation and restorative practices to support wellbeing\, relaxation and a deeper connection with the body. \nIn this 90-minute talk and guided experiential session\, Loulou invites participants to explore a different perspective on back pain\, posture and recurring discomfort — one that moves beyond simply stretching\, strengthening or “fixing” the body. \nDrawing on over 40 years of experience as a physiotherapist\, yoga teacher and pioneer of natural back care\, Loulou will explore how the body is constantly adapting and how intelligent support can help create the conditions for greater comfort\, alignment and ease. \nUsing simple practices for sitting\, resting and awareness — including the Buttafly\, a unique support tool developed through Loulou’s clinical experience — participants will discover how small changes in support and positioning can influence how the body feels and functions. \nThis is an opportunity to experience natural back care in a practical and accessible way\, with tools that can be taken into everyday life to support a healthier relationship with your spine.

SUMMARY:Finding steadiness and ease in sitting
DESCRIPTION:Is your yoga helping your spine… or asking too much of it?\nThe quality of our sitting influences everything that follows. Whether for meditation\, pranayama or seated yoga practice\, we may be so familiar with the shape we are trying to create that we don’t always notice how much effort the body is using to maintain it. \nIn this practical\, experiential workshop\, we’ll take a fresh look at sitting from the foundations upwards. Through simple anatomy\, guided awareness and exploration\, we’ll consider how the position of the pelvis influences the spine\, where our weight is being supported\, and the difference between holding ourselves upright and finding a position in which the body can support itself with greater ease. \nUsing the Buttafly\, we’ll explore how thoughtful support can create space around the pelvis and tailbone and provide a more balanced foundation for the spine. Rather than trying to correct or force posture\, we’ll notice what happens when the body is given the support it needs to respond for itself. \nInspired by the yogic principles of sthira (steadiness) and sukha (ease)\, this workshop brings anatomy off the page and into your own experience. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your own sitting patterns and simple\, practical ways to explore greater comfort\, stability and ease in your yoga practice. \nSuitable for all levels of yoga practitioner\, from complete beginners to experienced teachers. No previous knowledge of anatomy is needed. \nThe Buttafly will be provided for use during the workshop. \nAbout Loulou\nLoulou James is a Spine Health Specialist\, retired physiotherapist\, yoga teacher\, educator and founder of the Buttafly. Drawing on more than 40 years’ experience\, her workshops bring together practical anatomy\, movement and embodied exploration\, inviting people to understand their bodies more deeply through their own experience.

SUMMARY:Posture and presence: Finding your centre
DESCRIPTION:What if posture isn’t something we do to the body\, but a dynamic expression of how we meet the world? \nWe often think about posture and alignment in terms of where different parts of the body should be. In yoga\, this can easily become an attempt to make the body fit the pose. But what changes when we turn our attention inwards and begin with our own experience instead? \nIn this practical online workshop\, we’ll explore our relationship with the ground\, pelvis and spine\, and how these foundations influence the way we organise ourselves in stillness and movement. \nThrough simple\, accessible anatomy\, guided awareness\, breath and imagery\, we’ll explore posture from the inside out — noticing habitual patterns\, experiencing our relationship with gravity and discovering a sense of centre from which movement can naturally unfold. \nWe’ll also consider posture as something dynamic rather than fixed: continually adapting to movement\, our surroundings and what life is asking of us. Rather than trying to achieve a perfect posture\, we’ll explore what it feels like to become more centred\, balanced and present within your own body. \nThe emphasis throughout is on turning understanding into experience — taking simple anatomical and biomechanical principles and exploring what they actually mean in your body and your yoga practice. \nSuitable for all levels of yoga practitioner\, from complete beginners to experienced teachers.
No previous knowledge of anatomy is needed. \nAbout Loulou\nLoulou James is a Spine Health Specialist and founder of the Buttafly. Drawing on more than 40 years of experience as a physiotherapist\, yoga teacher and educator\, her approach invites people to move beyond simply knowing how the body works\, to explore it more deeply through their own experience.

SUMMARY:Harnessing the power of the natural breath
DESCRIPTION:Every breath creates movement through the body\, including the spine. What happens when we bring our awareness to this natural rhythm and begin to work with it? \nBreathing is something the body already knows how to do. Yet we can become so focused on breathing techniques\, controlling the breath or trying to breathe “correctly” that we overlook the extraordinary movement already taking place. \nIn this practical online workshop\, we’ll slow down\, tune in and explore the natural breath through our own experience. \nThrough simple\, accessible anatomy and guided awareness\, we’ll look at what happens within the body as we breathe and explore the relationship between the breath\, ribs\, spine and pelvis. \nRather than imposing a particular breathing pattern\, we’ll become curious about the movement that’s already there. We’ll explore how posture and support can influence the freedom of the breath\, and how awareness of this natural rhythm can begin to influence movement\, alignment and our experience of being present in the body. \nThis isn’t about mastering a breathing technique. It’s an opportunity to understand something we do thousands of times every day and experience its relationship with the body in a new way. \nSlow down\, tune in and explore your natural breath — discovering the power within this simple relationship\, and the ease and presence that can emerge. \nSuitable for all levels of yoga practitioner\, from complete beginners to experienced teachers. No previous knowledge of anatomy is needed. \nJoin live or watch the recording\nThis 90-minute workshop will be held live online via Zoom\, giving you the opportunity to learn\, explore and ask questions along the way. \nIf you can’t make it live\, or would simply like to revisit what you’ve learned\, everyone who books will receive access to the workshop recording for 7 days. \nPlease have your yoga mat\, Buttafly if you have one\, and any other props you regularly use to hand. SUMMARY:Awakening Pelvic Awareness
DESCRIPTION:Explore the pelvis from within through breath\, visualisation and meditation\, cultivating awareness\, ease and connection. \nA guest session with Loulou James for Room to Reward \nFor many women\, the pelvis only comes into focus when something goes wrong — perhaps pelvic floor symptoms\, back or sacroiliac pain\, menstrual difficulties\, fertility challenges\, or the changes that accompany pregnancy and menopause. \nYet long before symptoms arise\, this is an area where many of us may unconsciously hold tension\, have limited awareness of\, or have even disconnected from the sensations and messages of this part of the body. \nIn this gentle\, experiential session\, Loulou James will invite participants to turn their attention inwards and explore the pelvis through their own felt experience. With gentle guidance\, there will be space to notice sensations\, patterns of holding and areas we may rarely bring our awareness to\, allowing curiosity\, relaxation and a deeper sense of connection to emerge. \nDeveloping this awareness can become an important part of supporting pelvic health and overall well-being\, helping us reconnect with the body’s natural capacity for balance. \nSuitable for women of all ages and requiring no previous meditation experience. \n(Booking details to be confirmed!)

SUMMARY:Transform your yoga with the Buttafly — connecting with the heart space
DESCRIPTION:Heart opening begins long before we move into a backbend. It starts by meeting the body where it is\, creating the conditions for the chest\, shoulders and upper spine to soften\, respond and move more freely. \nIn this practical workshop\, we’ll explore how the Buttafly can support a range of gentle and more active practices that encourage greater space and mobility around the heart. Through thoughtful positioning and intelligent support\, we’ll discover how comfort\, ease and natural alignment allow expansion to emerge from within\, rather than asking the body to force a particular shape. \nWe’ll consider the relationship between the pelvis\, spine\, shoulders and breath\, exploring ways to encourage natural alignment while allowing the chest and upper body to open with greater comfort and confidence. \nSuitable for all levels of yoga practitioner\, from beginners to experienced teachers. \nJoin live or watch the recording\nThe workshop will be held live online via Zoom\, giving you the opportunity to learn\, ask questions and explore the practice together. \nIf you can’t make it live\, or would simply like to revisit what you’ve learned\, everyone who books will receive access to the workshop recording for 7 days. \nThere will be opportunities to ask questions during the live workshop. SUMMARY:Transform your yoga with the Buttafly — finding ease through the hips
DESCRIPTION:The hips are remarkable joints — designed to provide both stability and freedom of movement. As one of the body’s major weight-bearing areas\, they play an important role in how we sit\, stand\, move and practise yoga. \nMany people experience restriction around the hips\, often described as “tight hips” or “tight hamstrings”. Yet what we feel in one area of the body does not always tell the whole story. The relationship between the pelvis\, spine\, hips\, legs and connective tissues is complex\, and understanding these connections can transform the way we approach our practice. \nIn this practical workshop\, we’ll explore the hips with greater attention\, discovering how thoughtful positioning and the support of the Buttafly can create new possibilities for comfort\, movement and natural alignment. \nRather than forcing greater range of movement\, we’ll explore ways to help the body find more space\, respond with greater ease and develop a more supportive relationship with familiar yoga poses. SUMMARY:Transform your yoga with the Buttafly — connecting with the pelvis
DESCRIPTION:For many people\, their first introduction to the pelvis is being asked to find a “neutral pelvis”. But what does this actually mean\, and how do we experience it within our own body? \nThe pelvis is central to how we sit\, stand and move. In this practical workshop\, we’ll explore different ways to connect with the pelvis and understand its relationship with the spine\, hips and the rest of the body. \nThrough thoughtful movement\, positioning and the support of the Buttafly\, we’ll explore how creating greater ease and freedom of movement can allow the body to find a more natural sense of balance and alignment. \nRather than forcing the pelvis into a particular position\, we’ll discover how support\, awareness and gentle exploration can help the body respond and organise itself with greater comfort and ease. DESCRIPTION:Our feet and ankles form the foundation of every standing pose\, providing stability\, adaptability and balance with every step we take. \nBut what happens when we leave our yoga class? We slip our feet into shoes\, often giving little thought to these remarkable structures until something begins to hurt or feel stiff. \nDo you grip your toes when you stand? Perhaps only on one foot? Do your feet feel grounded and responsive\, or are they simply carrying you from one place to another? \nIn this practical workshop\, we’ll give the feet our full attention\, exploring their relationship with balance\, proprioception and the rest of the body. Through thoughtful positioning and the support of the Buttafly\, we’ll discover how small changes can influence comfort\, stability and natural alignment\, helping to create a stronger\, more responsive foundation for your yoga practice and everyday life. \nSuitable for all levels of yoga practitioner. \nPlease have your yoga mat\, Buttafly and any other yoga props you regularly use to hand. \nLed by Loulou James\, founder of the Buttafly.
