SUMMARY:Harnessing the power of the natural breath
DESCRIPTION:Every breath creates movement through the body\, including the spine. What happens when we bring our awareness to this natural rhythm and begin to work with it? \nBreathing is something the body already knows how to do. Yet we can become so focused on breathing techniques\, controlling the breath or trying to breathe “correctly” that we overlook the extraordinary movement already taking place. \nIn this practical online workshop\, we’ll slow down\, tune in and explore the natural breath through our own experience. \nThrough simple\, accessible anatomy and guided awareness\, we’ll look at what happens within the body as we breathe and explore the relationship between the breath\, ribs\, spine and pelvis. \nRather than imposing a particular breathing pattern\, we’ll become curious about the movement that’s already there. We’ll explore how posture and support can influence the freedom of the breath\, and how awareness of this natural rhythm can begin to influence movement\, alignment and our experience of being present in the body. \nThis isn’t about mastering a breathing technique. It’s an opportunity to understand something we do thousands of times every day and experience its relationship with the body in a new way. \nSlow down\, tune in and explore your natural breath — discovering the power within this simple relationship\, and the ease and presence that can emerge. \nSuitable for all levels of yoga practitioner\, from complete beginners to experienced teachers. No previous knowledge of anatomy is needed. \nJoin live or watch the recording\nThis 90-minute workshop will be held live online via Zoom\, giving you the opportunity to learn\, explore and ask questions along the way. \nIf you can’t make it live\, or would simply like to revisit what you’ve learned\, everyone who books will receive access to the workshop recording for 7 days. \nPlease have your yoga mat\, Buttafly if you have one\, and any other props you regularly use to hand. You do not need a Buttafly to take part. \nAbout Loulou James MCSP\nLoulou is a Spine Health Specialist\, retired physiotherapist\, yoga teacher\, educator and founder of the Buttafly. Drawing on more than 40 years’ experience\, her workshops bring together practical anatomy\, movement and embodied exploration\, inviting people to understand their bodies more deeply through their own experience.

SUMMARY:Transform your yoga with the Buttafly — supporting the neck and shoulders
DESCRIPTION:How often do we find ourselves craning our neck to see a screen\, reaching our head forwards over the steering wheel or straining to see clearly when our eyes need testing? We even speak of “sticking our neck out” when life asks us to extend ourselves beyond what feels comfortable. \nThese everyday patterns can influence the relationship between the head\, neck\, shoulders and spine — and may follow us onto the yoga mat. In this practical workshop\, we’ll explore how the Buttafly can be used to support this area\, creating opportunities for greater comfort\, freedom and more natural alignment in your practice. Small changes in the way we place and use props can make a meaningful difference\, allowing the body to respond with greater awareness and ease. \nSuitable for all levels of yoga practitioner\, from beginners to experienced teachers. \nJoin live or watch the recording\nThe workshop will be held live online via Zoom\, giving you the opportunity to learn\, ask questions and explore the practice together. \nIf you can’t make it live\, or would simply like to revisit what you’ve learned\, everyone who books will receive access to the workshop recording for 7 days. \nThere will be opportunities to ask questions during the live workshop. If you’d like personalised guidance specific to your own body or practice\, one-to-one consultations are also available. \nThis workshop forms part of the Transform Your Yoga with the Buttafly series. Each session focuses on a particular area or aspect of yoga practice\, bringing together accessible anatomy\, guided awareness and practical exploration. We’ll look at how the relevant joints normally move\, some of the common limitations that can develop\, and how the Buttafly can be used both to support the body and as a practical tool for self-treatment. Each workshop can be enjoyed on its own or as part of the complete series. \nDon’t have a Buttafly yet? You’re still very welcome to join. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how thoughtful prop use can support your practice and help you decide whether the Buttafly is right for you.

SUMMARY:Awakening Pelvic Awareness
DESCRIPTION:Explore the pelvis from within through breath\, visualisation and meditation\, cultivating awareness\, ease and connection. \nA guest session with Loulou James for Room to Reward \nFor many women\, the pelvis only comes into focus when something goes wrong — perhaps pelvic floor symptoms\, back or sacroiliac pain\, menstrual difficulties\, fertility challenges\, or the changes that accompany pregnancy and menopause. \nYet long before symptoms arise\, this is an area where many of us may unconsciously hold tension\, have limited awareness of\, or have even disconnected from the sensations and messages of this part of the body. \nIn this gentle\, experiential session\, Loulou James will invite participants to turn their attention inwards and explore the pelvis through their own felt experience. With gentle guidance\, there will be space to notice sensations\, patterns of holding and areas we may rarely bring our awareness to\, allowing curiosity\, relaxation and a deeper sense of connection to emerge. \nDeveloping this awareness can become an important part of supporting pelvic health and overall well-being\, helping us reconnect with the body’s natural capacity for balance. \nSuitable for women of all ages and requiring no previous meditation experience. \n(Booking details to be confirmed!)

SUMMARY:Natural back care and spine health
DESCRIPTION:Exploring the body’s capacity for release and realignment through the Buttafly Technique \nWhat if caring for the spine is not simply a matter of stretching\, strengthening\, manipulating or correcting the body? \nIn this talk\, Loulou James will offer a different perspective on back care and spinal health\, drawing on more than 40 years of clinical experience and what she has learned through developing the Buttafly Technique. \nWe’ll explore the body’s own capacity for adaptation\, release and realignment—and consider how we can create the conditions that allow its natural intelligence to respond. \nLoulou will introduce the principles behind the Buttafly Technique and\, where practical\, guide the group through some simple experiential explorations\, bringing the ideas to life within the body. \nThe talk is suitable for anyone interested in understanding their back and spine differently. \nAbout Loulou James MCSP\nLoulou is a Spine Health Specialist and the founder of the Buttafly® and the Buttafly Technique. A retired physiotherapist with more than 40 years’ clinical and teaching experience\, her background also encompasses yoga\, Lifestyle Prescriptions® health coaching and abdominal massage. \nThroughout her career\, Loulou has been interested not only in relieving symptoms\, but in understanding why the body responds as it does—and what becomes possible when we learn to listen to it. Her work brings together clinical understanding\, movement and embodied awareness\, grounded in a deep respect for the body’s intelligence and its capacity to adapt\, release and find its way back towards balance. \nThrough the Buttafly Technique\, her teaching and her individual work\, Loulou invites people to move beyond seeing the body as something that must constantly be corrected\, and towards a more curious\, trusting and collaborative relationship with themselves.

SUMMARY:Transform your yoga with the Buttafly — elbows\, wrists and hands
DESCRIPTION:We often take our hands\, wrists and elbows for granted. It is only when pain or injury makes something as simple as eating with a knife and fork difficult that we appreciate how much we depend on them. In yoga\, we also rely on them to bear weight\, provide stability and adapt to many different positions. \nThis practical workshop invites you to explore these important parts of the body with greater awareness and curiosity. Rather than simply asking the joints to accommodate a particular pose\, we’ll explore how they function\, how they respond\, and how thoughtful support can create new possibilities for movement. \nThe Buttafly will be used as one tool within this exploration — offering support\, alternatives and opportunities to experience familiar practices in different ways while encouraging greater comfort\, ease and natural alignment. SUMMARY:Transform your yoga with the Buttafly — connecting with the heart space
DESCRIPTION:Heart opening begins long before we move into a backbend. It starts by meeting the body where it is\, creating the conditions for the chest\, shoulders and upper spine to soften\, respond and move more freely. \nIn this practical workshop\, we’ll explore how the Buttafly can support a range of gentle and more active practices that encourage greater space and mobility around the heart. Through thoughtful positioning and intelligent support\, we’ll discover how comfort\, ease and natural alignment allow expansion to emerge from within\, rather than asking the body to force a particular shape. \nWe’ll consider the relationship between the pelvis\, spine\, shoulders and breath\, exploring how support and movement in one area can influence the sense of space and freedom elsewhere. \nSuitable for all levels of yoga practitioners\, from beginners to experienced teachers. SUMMARY:Transform your yoga with the Buttafly — finding ease through the hips
DESCRIPTION:The hips are remarkable joints — designed to provide both stability and freedom of movement. As one of the body’s major weight-bearing areas\, they play an important role in how we sit\, stand\, move and practise yoga. \nMany people experience restriction around the hips\, often described as “tight hips” or “tight hamstrings”. Yet what we feel in one area of the body does not always tell the whole story. The relationship between the pelvis\, spine\, hips\, legs and connective tissues is complex\, and understanding these connections can transform the way we approach our practice. \nIn this practical workshop\, we’ll explore the hips with greater attention\, discovering how thoughtful positioning and the support of the Buttafly can create new possibilities for comfort\, movement and natural alignment. \nRather than forcing a greater range of movement\, we’ll explore ways to create more space and allow the body to find greater ease within familiar yoga poses. \nSuitable for all levels of yoga practitioners\, from beginners to experienced teachers. SUMMARY:Transform your yoga with the Buttafly — connecting with the pelvis
DESCRIPTION:For many people\, their first introduction to the pelvis is being asked to find a “neutral pelvis”. But what does this actually mean\, and how do we experience it in our own body? \nThe pelvis is central to how we sit\, stand and move. In this practical workshop\, we’ll explore different ways to connect with the pelvis and understand its relationship with the spine\, hips and the rest of the body. \nThrough thoughtful movement\, positioning and the support of the Buttafly\, we’ll explore what happens when we stop trying to place the pelvis in a prescribed position and instead create the conditions for the body to respond and organise itself with greater comfort and ease. \nSuitable for all levels of yoga practitioners\, from beginners to experienced teachers. SUMMARY:Transform your yoga with the Buttafly — grounding through the feet
DESCRIPTION:Our feet and ankles form the foundation of every standing pose\, providing stability\, adaptability and balance with every step we take. \nBut what happens when we leave our yoga class? We slip our feet into shoes\, often giving little thought to these remarkable structures until something begins to hurt or feel stiff. \nDo you grip your toes when you stand? Perhaps only on one foot? Do your feet feel grounded and responsive\, or are they simply carrying you from one place to another? \nIn this practical workshop\, we’ll give the feet our full attention\, exploring their relationship with balance\, proprioception and the rest of the body. Through thoughtful positioning and the support of the Buttafly\, we’ll discover how small changes can influence comfort\, stability and natural alignment\, helping to create a stronger\, more responsive foundation for your yoga practice and everyday life. \nSuitable for all levels of yoga practitioners\, from beginners to experienced teachers. \nDon’t have a Buttafly yet? You are still very welcome to join and discover how thoughtful prop use can enhance your practice.
