SUMMARY:The natural breath and your spine
DESCRIPTION:When you’re concentrating on a yoga posture and following breathing instructions\, do you find it difficult to notice how your breath is already moving through you?\nExperience the natural breath\nThrough simple anatomy\, guided awareness and visualisation\, we’ll explore the movement of breathing through the ribs\, pelvis and spine\, noticing how it responds to changes in position and support. \nWe’ll draw on these discoveries within gentle asana\, exploring opportunities for greater ease and developing familiarity with the natural breath for your yoga practices. \nA foundation for pranayama\nThis isn’t about mastering a breathing technique. It’s an opportunity to understand something we do thousands of times every day and experience its relationship with the body in a new way. Becoming familiar with your natural breath gives you a reference point from which to explore specific breathing practices. \nThis workshop offers time to develop that familiarity\, with particular attention to the relationship between breathing\, the spine and the support beneath you. \nYou’ll have opportunities to: \n\nExperience the movement of your natural breath.\nExplore the relationship between your ribs\, pelvis and spine.\nDiscover how support and awareness can inform your asana practice.\nBecome familiar with your natural breath as a starting point for pranayama.\n\nWho can take part?\nBeginners\, experienced yoga practitioners and teachers are welcome. \nJoin live or watch the recording\nWednesday 4 November 2026 · 7–8.30pm · Online via Zoom · £18 \nEveryone who books receives access to the recording for seven days. \nPlease have your yoga mat and usual supports nearby\, including a Buttafly if you have one. A Buttafly is not required. \nAbout Loulou James MCSP\nLoulou is a Spine Health Specialist\, retired physiotherapist\, yoga teacher\, educator and founder of the Buttafly. Drawing on more than 40 years’ experience\, her workshops bring together practical anatomy\, movement and embodied exploration\, inviting people to understand their bodies more deeply through their own experience. \nThere is an ease in yoga that unfolds as we deepen our awareness of movement arising from within and trust the body’s own way of organising.\nLoulou James \nMinimum bookings: This workshop requires at least six participants to go ahead. If the minimum is not reached\, you’ll be notified by 7pm on Monday 2 November and receive a full refund.

SUMMARY:Learn the Buttafly Technique for your yoga practice
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to explore a way to set down the busyness of your day and arrive more fully on your mat\, ready for your regular yoga practice? \nYou may already begin with Savasana\, allowing time to settle and turn your attention inwards. But what would it be like to prepare for Savasana itself — to help your body unwind so that resting feels more comfortable and easeful? \nThe Buttafly Technique offers a therapeutic self-care practice in which precise support beneath the pelvis invites the body’s innate intelligence to respond through the spine. People describe experiences of lightness\, stillness and greater ease in their alignment\, offering a different starting point for rest and movement. \nA simple practice with deeper dimensions\nCraniosacral practitioners have described the Buttafly as acting as a still-point inducer. This resonates with my experience of the deep stillness that can arise through the Technique\, and informs my continuing enquiry into its relationship with craniosacral rhythms. \nWithin yoga\, the spine also has significance as the pathway associated with kundalini\, the potential for awakening described in yogic traditions. Exploring the relationship between spinal release\, stillness and this inner experience forms part of my understanding of the Buttafly Effect. \nThis small-group workshop brings that enquiry into practical learning. You’ll receive a full explanation of the Technique\, individual guidance on its precise setup\, and an understanding of how and when to use it within your own practice. \nWho is this workshop for?\nThis workshop is for yoga practitioners\, including those early in their practice. Yoga teachers are welcome to attend for their own personal use. \nYou need to be able to get down to and up from the floor independently\, using a chair for support if needed. You are welcome to sit on a chair during the explanations and discussion. \nPlease note: \n\nPlaces are limited to eight participants to allow time for individual setup guidance\, questions and personal exploration.\nA Standard Buttafly is provided for use during the workshop\, so you do not need to own one to attend.\nThis workshop requires a minimum of four participants. If the minimum is not reached\, you’ll be notified 72 hours beforehand and offered a full refund or transfer to another date.\n\nPersonal practice and professional training\nThe Buttafly Technique is a therapeutic technique that can also be practised for self-care in everyday life\, as well as in preparation for yoga. This workshop teaches you to use it for yourself; it does not authorise you to teach others\, lead the Technique in classes or groups\, or offer it professionally. \nProfessionals qualified and insured to offer hands-on modalities can enquire about the separate Buttafly Technique practitioner training pathway. \nAbout Loulou James MCSP\, founder of the Buttafly and the Buttafly Technique\nLoulou is a Spine Health Specialist\, retired physiotherapist\, yoga teacher and educator. Drawing on more than 40 years’ experience\, her workshops bring together practical anatomy\, movement and embodied exploration\, inviting people to understand their bodies more deeply through their own experience.
