Therapeutic Back Massage
Lifestyle Prescriptions® Health Coaching
For a full assessment and diagnosis of your back pain, please book a Lifestyle Prescriptions® appointment.
A holistic approach to treatment is neccessary in all cases of chronic back pain with the aim of providing:
- Immediate symptom relief
- Identification and management of the root cause
- The right resources to minimse the risk of recurrent episodes
A holistic approach is considerably more effective than physical therapy alone in providing fast and lasting relief.
As a Chartered Physiotherapist with a long career in providing hands-on treatment I know the value of treating from a physical perspective.
But, especially in chronic conditions, if we don’t take into account emotional factors we are missing the real root cause.
You may argue, “but I’ve been told I’ve a slipped disc” or “I ripped all the muscles in my back lifting weights”.
The simple fact is the body has an innate capacity to heal – so if this is not happening, we have to find out why and treat that.
For anyone who has been brought up in the West, it can be difficult to understand how your thoughts and feelings affect your physical health.
I get it, I really do. I had a foot in both camps for a long time and it was only in my training as a Lifestyle Prescriptions® Health Coach that I gained a clear and conscise understanding of how the mind and body work together.
Key to this is Organ-Mind-Brain Anatomy™, a new and evidence-based science that details the specific connections between thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and the body.
It means that we can be precise in relating symptoms to specific stress triggers – whether emotional, beliefs, or lifestyle habits – and the management of them to provide sustainable health solutions.
When you consult with me, we will consider all the factors that have or are causing biological stress and impacting your body’s ability to heal.
We will then use mind-body techniques to:
- Resolve the root cause/s of your symptoms
- Free you from pain
- Increase flexiblity, strength and function
- Help you sleep better
- Regain confidence in your body
- Enjoy leading a full life with family and friends
- Benefit from improved health and vitality overall
This appointment type is available online and in-person.

Arvigo Therapy®
Arvigo Therapy® was developed by Rosita Arvigo based on her experience as a physician of naprapathy (manipulation of the soft tissues) and her research into the traditional healing methods of the Mayan people in Central America.
The massage and mobilisation techniques are applied to the abdomen, the low back and the pelvis to relieve internal congestion, improve circulation and ease the restrictions and discomfort caused by scar tissue.
The Buttafly Technique and Arvigo Therapy® complement each other very well, and can be used along with Lifestyle Prescriptions® to provide a holistic protocol for the following conditions:
Digestive Health
Anxiety and stress, eating on the run, and a lack of exercise can all create unfavourable conditions for the digestive system and cause disorders ranging from mild discomfort, heartburn and bloating to more significant conditions such as IBS and Crohn’s disease. Massage of the abdomen helps to stimulate the natural movement of the gut (peristalsis) to relieve constipation. It can also ease spasm of the intestines which is one of the main causes of diarrhea.
Women’s Health
The massage is incredibly effective for a huge array of women’s health problems including painful and irregular periods, spotting at the beginning and end of menstruation, uterine polyps and ovarian cycsts.
Retroversion of the uterus (a tilting towards the back of body) while a common diagnosis (approximately 1 in 5 women) is not “normal” and is a risk factor for constipation, painful periods, organ prolapse and a range of bladder and bowel problems.
Arvigo Therapy® also helps to restore the optimal resting position of the uterus to promote overall vitiality in the pelvic area.
Chronic Pelvic Pain
Long-term or chronic pelvic pain affects around 1 in 6 women and can seriously affect quality of life and a woman’s ability to carry out everyday activities.
Following Surgery
Arvigo Therapy® can be applied from six weeks after surgery (Caesarian, appendectomy) to prevent adhesions and minimise scar tissue.
It can also help with the emotional aspects of organ removal e.g. hysterectomy.
Poor Breathing Patterns
We are born knowing how to breathe yet the reality is that breathing pattern disorders are very common. Some people hold their breath in while others hold their breath out. Either way, as a fundamental part of life, the way we breathe affects our overall health and vitality annd can even be a primary cause of poor health.
Medical research has shown that poor breathing patterns can cause or contribute to sleep disorders, anxiety, IBS and other digestive problems, fatugue, memory loss, headaches, chronic pain and back pain.
Abdominal massage helps to release a tight diaphragm which is the primary muscle of respiration as well as the more superficial abdominal muscles.
