The heart of awareness

The other day, a good friend noticed that I’d started referring to the heart of awareness rather than the art of awareness.

It was one of those things that had simply emerged in my language without conscious thought. When she mentioned it, I realised there was a reason.

To me, the art of awareness speaks to a practice — the heart of awareness speaks to an essence.

The art is what we practise. The heart is why we practise. They are closely related, but they don’t quite do the same job.

Beyond awareness as a technique or a skill, I hope to inspire awareness as a quality of relationship: with the body, with ourselves, with other people, and with life itself.

In my work, people aren’t simply learning to observe their posture or notice their breathing. They are learning how to listen without immediately judging, fixing, correcting or dismissing what they find.

A client may first arrive because of back pain. They begin by noticing their spine, their breath, their posture, their habits. Over time, that awareness often expands.

It touches how they move through their day; how they respond to stress; how they relate to themselves.

The practice remains the same, but something deeper begins to emerge.

From the body towards the heart of awareness.
