Finding steadiness and ease in sitting

Is your yoga helping your spine… or asking too much of it?

The quality of our sitting influences everything that follows. Whether for meditation, pranayama or seated yoga practice, we may be so familiar with the shape we are trying to create that we don’t always notice how much effort the body is using to maintain it.

In this practical, experiential workshop, we’ll take a fresh look at sitting from the foundations upwards. Through simple anatomy, guided awareness and exploration, we’ll consider how the position of the pelvis influences the spine, where our weight is being supported, and the difference between holding ourselves upright and finding a position in which the body can support itself with greater ease.

Using the Buttafly, we’ll explore how thoughtful support can create space around the pelvis and tailbone and provide a more balanced foundation for the spine. Rather than trying to correct or force posture, we’ll notice what happens when the body is given the support it needs to respond for itself.

Inspired by the yogic principles of sthira (steadiness) and sukha (ease), this workshop brings anatomy off the page and into your own experience. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your own sitting patterns and simple, practical ways to explore greater comfort, stability and ease in your yoga practice.

Suitable for all levels of yoga practitioner, from complete beginners to experienced teachers. No previous knowledge of anatomy is needed.

The Buttafly will be provided for use during the workshop.
