My name is Loulou James, and I help people overcome back pain and achieve spinal health with groundbreaking tools and techniques that are accessible to almost everyone.

An essential part of my approach is the Buttafly, which I conceived as an ergonomic meditation seat and yoga block, drawing on my expertise as a physiotherapist and yoga teacher.

Soon after the Buttafly was launched, I discovered a way of using it while lying down that facilitates a natural and curative release of the spine and results in the “Buttafly Effect”—a myriad of transformations throughout body and mind.

Through using the Buttafly in this way to help myself and my clients, a technique evolved, and my knowledge of the spine and understanding of the cause of back pain accumulated over 30 years of working in the military, the NHS, and private practice has been forever changed.

A Holistic Approach

The Buttafly Technique offers both a corrective and a preventative measure, providing a unique way for you to look after the health of your spine daily and in the comfort of your home.

To shepherd you through the process, the Buttafly Effect 7-Day Challenge offers a unique combination of body-mind practices centred around the Buttafly Technique to bring your spine and whole being back into balance.

Together, we will work to renew your trust in your body’s wisdom so that you can experience pain relief, enjoy effortless good posture, and ultimately get back to doing the things you love most.

The Buttafly Technique is not just a technique. It’s a healing journey that aims to replace your fears with hope and renew your confidence in yourself.

Equipment Required

  • A Standard Buttafly
  • 2 pillows
  • 2 cushions
  • Heavy blanket, preferably of natural fibre


The Buttafly Effect 7-Day Challenge will take place at the same time every day from Monday, 1st July, until Sunday, 7th July.

The sessions will be recorded for you to watch in the event that you cannot make the session live.
